Antique Sterling Silver & Turquoise Guilloché Enamel Compact

Antique Sterling Silver & Turquoise Guilloché Enamel Compact

£1,100.00

This vibrant Antique Sterling Silver & Turquoise Guilloché Enamel Compact is a stunning example of Edwardian to early Art Deco period craftsmanship (circa 1910-1925). This piece combines the precision of engine-turned engraving with the luminous depth of vitreous enamel floral decoration.

Luminous Enamel Artistry The lid is the focal point of this piece, featuring a enamel floral decoration on a brilliant turquoise-blue guilloché enamel. The translucent glass enamel is fired over a machine-engraved sunburst pattern, which radiates from the centre to catch and reflect light from every angle. The result is a mesmerising, almost iridescent shimmer that is characteristic of high-end European enamel work.

The compact is crafted from solid Sterling Silver (marked "B.B CO"). The body features sophisticated engine-turned detailing, often including delicate vertical lines or geometric banding that complements the lid's design. The interior is finished in a rich gold-tone vermeil (gold-washed silver), a traditional luxury detail that prevents the silver from tarnishing and provides a beautiful contrast to the turquoise exterior.

While turquoise enamel was a favourite of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras, the quality of this specific piece points to the prestigious workshops of Austria, Germany, or England. It serves as both a functional accessory for the vanity and a highly collectible work of miniature art.

Excellent antique condition with a bright, intact enamel surface and a firm-fitting lid.
