ANTIQUE GEO. III GEORGIAN SILVER SOUP TUREEN LONDON 1802
A wonderful George III Georgian Solid Silver Soup Tureen in an oval shape standing on four leaf-capped palmette panel feet. The Tureen has C-scroll foliate and reeded double handles mirrored in the foliate topped handle on the domed stepped lid. The lid has a fluted design radiating out beneath the handle and the dish itself has a fine gadroon border round the upper rim.
The Soup Tureen has a crest with tiny initials (FC) Engraved on the lid and a fine crest on the side of the Dish. The arms are those of Caulfeild quartering the quarterly arms of Crofton and (? Proctor or Croker) for St. George Caulfeild of Cunamon Castle, co. Roscommon, who married on 2 April 1802 Frances (1777-1831), fourth daughter of Sir Edward Crofton, 2nd Bt (1748-1797) by Anne (or Armida) (1751-1817), daughter and heir of Thomas Croker of Backweston (or Baxtown), co. Kildare. Mr. Caulfeild died in 1810. (See Henry Thomas Crofton et al, Crofton Memoirs, York, 1911)
